I offer an all-round roofing service to domestic and commercial customers in the northwest of England. In a part of the country that’s particularly vulnerable to extremes of inclement weather, it’s pretty evident that sooner or later just about every kind of apex or flat roof is going to be on the receiving end of some fairly harsh rain, hail or snow showers, or mercilessly battered by high, gusting winds. Roofs that have been neglected and allowed to fall into disrepair will be the first to suffer and the resulting damage will soon become apparent: displaced or missing tiles, broken fascias and soffits, wear and tear on the leadwork around the chimney - and leaks!

Whether obvious or insidious, water ingress that affects a building’s fragile interior or external brickwork and rendering can only be bad news. Of course, once the damage has been done, it’s important to get hold of a good roofing specialist who can quickly diagnose exactly what has been affected, whether there is any evidence or risk of knock-on effects, and what measures must be taken to rectify the situation.

With nearly three decades of experience in the roofing trade, I’m proud of my ability to react efficiently and with minimum delay in every case. On first surveying any job, I know the obvious – and not so obvious – signs to look out for. It’s an acquired skill for which only a practised eye will do. It’s not something that can be learned in a college or training centre, only by long experience in the field.
